This term we're going on a minibeast hunt. We will be exploring our woods, field, playground and pond areas, sweeping our nets and lifting up logs to see who's home in our school environment. Then we will be describing what they look like, comparing their habitats, thinking about what they eat and how they move.
Just like real entomologists, we will be asking and answering some research questions to learn about bees, worms and butterflies too. We will make food chains to show who eats who and carry out investigations to find out more, like how far a snail travels in a day and how a spider catches its prey.
In Year 2 we begin using cursive handwriting. We have a list of 'Must-Haves' that we use each lesson to remind us of what we need to include in our written work.
We will be learning to read and spell the Year 2 common exception words. You can find a list of these words in the document below.
This Year we will be reading a range of different text types, including picture books, fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Below is a recommended book list for Year 2 for you to explore and enjoy. How many can you read? Which book is your favourite and why?
We follow the White Rose scheme in Maths. Please see below a knowledge organiser for each of the units, which outline the Year 2 coverage.
