Maths

Mathematics equips pupils with the uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include basic fluency, logical reasoning, problem solving skills and the ability to think in abstract ways.

Mathematics is important in everyday life. It is integral to all aspects of life and with this in mind we endeavour to ensure that children develop a healthy and enthusiastic attitude towards mathematics that will stay with them throughout their lives.

It also has an inherent beauty of pattern, logic and reasoning, which we endeavour to share with the children and help them to see and appreciate.

The National Curriculum order for mathematics describes what must be taught in each key stage. Churchill Primary School uses 'Maths No Problem' as a basis for all our planning to ensure coverage of all areas of the National Curriculum and continuity and progression in the teaching of mathematics across the school.
