Y4 Cedar Class

Welcome to Cedar Class!

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful half term holiday. This half term, to distract ourselves from the chilly turn in the weather, we will be looking to a warmer climate and exploring  the exciting Ancient civilisation of the Egyptians. Our topic is called 'How much did the Ancient Egyptians achieve? (More details about what we will be covering can be found on our Topic page).

Please do keep an eye on our class page for exciting updates and information about all the exciting things we have been learning!

Home Learning: November 19th 2019!

While the school's power supply is being repaired, please start work on the following tasks.

In class next week we will be holding a debate! Our focus question this half term is 'How much did the Ancient Egyptians achieve?' What do you consider to be their greatest achievement? You must first decide which of their achievements you would like to talk about and then write a persuasive argument to convince the rest of the class that what you have chosen is the greatest achievement to have come from this ancient civilisation.

This afternoon we had a 'Fantastic' workshop at school with the Fantastic Fred team. This informative and entertaining show taught us all about the importance of good mental health.

F.R.E.D is an acronym for the four practical ways in which children can help to look after their own good mental heath:

Food – eating the right foods

Rest – getting enough sleep

Exercise – being active

Digital Devices – managing time online

Class Trip to Horton Kirby Environmental Education Centre

19.09.19

Year 4 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Horton Kirby learning all about the features of the River Darent. We put on our wellies and got into the river at two different locations to test it's speed by racing some plastic ducks. On our walk down to the river the children had a wonderful time playing pooh sticks from the bridge!

After lunch we learnt all about the river's course from source to sea and became rock detectives to see if we could identify which rocks were permeable or impermeable. For our final activity of the day, we got to put all that we had learnt into action by making our own rivers out of a mud tray, Lego bricks, some water and using our fingers to map out the main channel and some tributaries.

05.09.19

Today we named the newest members of Cedar Class. Meet Leopard, Sunshine, Midnight and Peacock. We are looking forward to learning more about our Guppies this term along with other species that you may find living in or around a river.
