Science Week 5

This week, in Science, we are going to be looking at pollination and it's role in the life cycle of a plant.

Please read this PowerPoint about pollination and answer the quiz at the end.

Please complete the activity below

Science Week 4

This week, we are going to be learning about seed dispersal. There are many different ways a seed can travel to try and find a suitable place to grow. Think about when you blow the seeds of a dandelion and then watch them travel in the wind or when you see sycamore leaves spinning to the ground. What helps them to travel away from the dominant tree that they have fallen from?

Please see below a PowerPoint that gives more information on how seeds can be dispersed. There is also an activity for you to complete. If you are not able to print the sheets out, you can always draw the pictures and the table on paper.

As an extra challenge, if you see any examples of seeds being dispersed whilst out on a walk, please take a photo or video that you can send via Dojo Portfolio. How many different ones can you find?

Science Week 3

This week, we would like you to learn about the life cycle of a plant.

Please watch the two video clips on BBC Bitesize about the life cycle of a plant and see dispersal of a dandelion. There is also a quiz underneath to answer.
Now we would like you to read the leaflet about the life cycle of a plant and answer the questions attached.

Week 2

This is a really fun experiment that really demonstrates the job of the stem of a flower. Again, if you are able to find a pale flower with a long stem (it does not have to be a carnation) and you have some food colouring, follow the instructions on the PowerPoint to create some really colourful petals. Celery is also a good alternative to use for this investigation. Don't forget to upload your results with details onto Class Dojo.

Term 5 week 1

For the first part of the summer term, we are going to be learning all about PLANTS in Science.

To start, we're going to be learning about the different parts of a flower as well as the function of each part. The first lesson involves dissecting a flower (a daffodil works really well), but don't worry if you're not able to get hold of one, as there is a video on here of a flower being dissected that you could use instead.

Please read the PowerPoint below on parts of a flower.

If you are able to dissect a flower, it would be great if you could take pictures so that we can look at them once we are back together again.

Daffodil Dissection

This video is about Daffodil Dissection

Please watch the first 3 videos explaining the parts of a plant, what plants need to survive and the anatomy of a flower.

Here's a game that you can play at home with all of the family.

Science

In Science, we have been learning about Forces including magnets. Here are some activities that you can do at home, even if you do not have any magnets available.

Week 2

Please read the book 'Investigating Magnetism' which has been assigned to you on Epic. (Epic login details can be found under the middle school Reading section).
