Maths

This term we will be starting our Mathematical adventure by focusing on how we learn and the methods we can use to help our brains recall ideas when we need them most. We will learn about how neural pathways develop and how we can strengthen those over time. Research shows that quizzes help learning to move from our short term memories into our longer term understanding so we will be peppering our sessions with quizzes of all kinds.

To begin with we will also be developing a strong foundation of Place Value understanding on which to build other number work later in the year. Children will be using big numbers up to and over 1,000,000 and learning how to make sense of these when they encounter them in scales, fact files or problems.

Later in the Autumn term we will move on to explore the four operations and fractions in greater detail, learning how to make sense of, manipulate and apply our knowledge regarding these aspects of maths.
