2 Timothy 2:3-7
Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. Soldiers don’t get tied up in the affairs of civilian life, for then they cannot please the officer who enlisted them. And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. And hardworking farmers should be the first to enjoy the fruit of their labor.7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you understand all these things.
Paul offers some good advice to Timothy about determination and success; he explains that Timothy shouldn’t be distracted from the job he needs to get done – he should ignore those who are not involved in the job and might distract him and focus on pleasing his leader. He reminds Timothy of the importance of checking he is doing the job right – staying within the rules and be points out that those who work hardest will enjoy satisfaction from a job they have done well.
