As you may be aware, the government is giving additional money to schools to help children from lower income families learn and make progress and ensure they achieve their best. The funding is called ‘Pupil Premium’.
This additional money is used to provide extra support and resources to assist your child’s learning.
Your child will be eligible for the ‘Pupil Premium’ if you are entitled to Free School Meals (please see below). All applications for Free School Meals are strictly confidential.
All children in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 are entitled to a free school meal but we still need parents to apply for Free School Meals so that all eligible children receive ‘Pupil Premium’. If you have a child in Key Stage 2 and you are eligible for Free School Meals, we would also recommend you apply even if your child does not want to have a school meal.
Adopted, Looked After, previously Looked After and Service children are also entitled to ‘Pupil Premium’ so please speak to your class teacher if this applies and the school are not already aware of this.
You can register your child for Free School Meals if you get any of these benefits:
Income-based Jobseekers Allowance
Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
Child tax credit with an annual gross income into the household that is no more than £16,190, provided you are not entitled to working tax credit. If you are entitled to any part of working tax credit there is no eligibility with the exception of working tax run-on as shown below
Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.
How do I apply for Free School Meals?
It is now easy to apply on-line at http://www.kent.gov.uk/education-and-children/schools/free-school-meals
This is a simple and quick process but please be aware that you will need your National Insurance number to hand.
We are also happy to help and can provide access to the internet if this is not available at home or we can provide a paper copy of the form which we can send off once completed.
Please feel free to contact Mrs Doukkali or Mrs Aish in the Office if you have any queries.
