Design a Christmas Tree Decoration Competition 2016

Design a Christmas Tree Decoration Competition 2016 Wed 05 Oct 2016

The Diocese of Rochester is asking pupils from Church of England primary schools to design a Christmas decoration.

If you would like to enter, please see the attached details. Competition entries must be received by Friday 4th November.

At Churchill C of E Primary School we especially value our close relationship with St. Mary’s Church in Westerham. It is a mutually supportive relationship that has developed well over the years and helps to strengthen our Christian distinctiveness as a school aswell as promote the image of the Church in the eyes of the school community.

There are many ways in which we work closely with St. Mary’s Church in Westerham:-

Weekly Collective Worship

Each Wednesday the Vicar at St. Mary’s, Reverend Kevin Barnard, leads our collective worship. This is an important part of enhancing Christianity and St. Mary’s Church to the children of the school. Children have the opportunity to develop their understanding of Christian worship through this close and regular link.

Special Christian Services

Throughout the Christian calendar there is a variety of special Christian services some of which are held in school and some of which are held in the Church, e.g. Christmas carol Service and Easter service. We aim to develop the children’s understanding of Christian services, celebrations and the Eucharist through regular visits to the Church.

Church Choir

Children at Churchill C of E Primary sing in the Church choir and the St. Mary’s choir has also sung in school on several occasions, for example at Epiphany. We value this link and aim to develop our Christian worship through music and singing.

Charity Work

The School often supports the Church in raising money for worthwhile Christian charities, for example Tearfund Kigezi and Operation Christmas Child.

SIAMS

As a Church of England School we are inspected under the SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools) framework. At our last SIAS in 2011 we achieved an ‘outstanding’. As part of our Governing Body we have a dedicated Church School Committee that is focused on continuous improvement as a Church School. Areas that are evaluated regularly are leadership and management, collective worship, Christian distinctiveness and the quality of our RE teaching.
