Welcome to Chestnut Class
Chestnut class are fully immersed in life in year 2, enjoying the challenges it brings and developing resilience.
A few reminders about the routines and requirements for year 2:
Please continue to encourage your children to be independent when coming to school. It is so wonderful to see how so many of them have matured over the year, but we need to prepare them for Key Stage 2 by letting them line up independently in the morning. Remembering to hand in homework will be their responsibility, as will remembering to bring the required equipment to school every day.
This term our topic is Africa. We will be looking at the geography of this wonderful continent, as well as exploring it's influences in art.
In Science we are starting by looking at living things and their habitats. If your child has a favourite animal, they might like to do some research into their habitats in the wild. We would love to see any home learning your child has chosen to do!
Spelling practise is an important part of your child’s education. Following on from their phonics teaching in year 1, we are now teaching spelling daily to work on improving their accuracy and develop their vocabulary. We will send home termly lists of common exception words that have been divided into what they need to know per year of their schooling. The highlighted words are the words they need to learn, so encouraging your child to practise these words at home will be hugely beneficial to them.
We hope that all children continue to enjoy their experience in year 2 and have a happy 2018.
