Welcome back to school Beech Class! We hope you have had a fantastic Summer and are excited about the year ahead. I am looking forward to all your hard work this term and supporting you in becoming more independent learners.
This term in Beech our humanities topic is the United Kingdom. The children will be learning about many different aspects of the UK, including Capital Cities and Seas. We will be looking closely at aerial photographs and travel routes, making important links to the community.
In Science our focus will be Seasonal Changes. And, as usual, will be continuing to learn about a range of different genres and concepts in English and Maths.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday and all children should have appropriate P.E kit in school every day. Please ensure all school uniform, PE kit, coat and personal belongings are named.
Homework will be given out on a Friday and must be handed in by the following Wednesday at the latest. The spelling of the Year 1 Common Exception Words will be tested weekly so it's important that the children are practicing them at home.
The children will continue to bring home their reading books, which will be changed weekly. They are also encouraged to read other types of text from a range of sources, eg. home, internet, environment or local library.
Here's to a fantastic first term!
