Ash - Foundation

Welcome to Ash Class!

Welcome back after the lovely Easter break. The children have been making fantastic progress in their learning and are becoming more and more independent. These terms are very important in preparing them for the transition into Year One.

In Literacy we are continuing to consolidate their knowledge of the phase 3 sounds and using these in both their reading and writing. We will also be looking at different writing formats e.g. lists, letters, instructions, recipes and how these are formed and used.

In Maths we are using numbers to 20 and beyond and are looking at adding, subtraction, estimating, sharing , doubling and halving, courting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.

Within shape, space and measure we are learning about symmetry, patterns, money, data handling and more about 3D shapes.

This term our topics are Growing and People Who Help Us. Within Growing we will be looking at the parts of a plant, how plants grow and change. The children will have the opportunity to grow different fruit and vegetables within our Foundation Stage vegetable plots. We will be using some of our produce to cook with later in the term, and the fun bit “eating it!” We will lean about the different fruit and vegetables and begin to understand the need to eat a healthy balanced diet and the importance of exercise and its effects on our bodies.

Within People Who Help Us we will be learning lots about all of the different people who help us in our lives e.g. police, fire, doctors/nurses, teachers, librarians, town council and what their job roles involve.

We also have some exciting additional activities such as our school trip to the British Wildlife Centre, teddy bears picnic, sports day, a DT week and beginning the next steps on our journey ready for Year One.
